Problem
Climate change stands as one of the most urgent issues that calls for immediate action. Yet, many lack the motivation and knowledge needed to embrace a sustainable lifestyle and alter ingrained habits.
Context
Research displayed that 77% of individuals surveyed want to learn how to live more sustainably.
51% of people indicated that not having enough information is the biggest barrier to the adoption of a more sustainable lifestyle.
How might we help people stay informed and motivated to achieve sustainability goals in order to maintain a sustainable lifestyle?
2. Discovery
Background Research
To gain a deeper understanding of how individuals navigate specific barriers, challenges, motivations and incentives, 20 individuals were surveyed.
User Interviews
User interviews were conducted to gain further insight into their experiences, barriers, and motivations relating to sustainability practices, as well as their attitudes towards gamification as a tool for driving behavior change.

The app's key features are tailored to meet users' design needs and motivations identified through primary research, including surveys and interviews:

Motivation and Encouragement: Users seek ongoing motivation to achieve their sustainability goals.
Recognition of Efforts: Users want their accomplishments acknowledged and rewarded.
Accountability: Users need a way to stay accountable for their commitments to sustainable actions.

My decision to create this gamified sustainability tracker app was driven by an immense passion for the environment and a deep desire to empower others to make sustainable choices. I believe that by infusing gamification into the app, we can ignite an emotional connection to sustainability and provide users with the motivation they need to stay committed to making a positive impact on our planet.
